Boy, this Christian cinema's not going away, that's for sure! One hit after another... how do they do it? Well, this one is relying on formerly secular star power. That's right, Hilary Swank, two-time Oscar (TM)(R)(C) winner and former spouse of Chad Lowe, has decided to do a movie for Jesus this time. Not that the starring roles in regular Hollywood are drying up, mind you. Not a'tall! Quite the opposite, in fact... I mean, she's working hard, but nothing seems to stick! Not like it used to. At least she's not one of these people blatantly appearing on Broadway in a desperate attempt to get that EGOT. For some reason, and this is probably just me, this new one sounds a teentsy weentsy bit like 2010's Conviction, where she plays a working mother who puts herself through law school so she can defend her brother, wrongly convicted of a crime he didn't commit. Hence the film's title! Well, in this new one, she doesn't struggle to become a lawyer, but she does single-handedly rally an entire community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill young daughter. I kinda like the fact that, even though this was produced by Christian cinema producers, it doesn't seem to have a whole lot to do with Jesus. To make things more interesting, the main character's a bit of an alki! ...I didn't spell that right, did I? I mean, a bit of a souse. Just a few small shots of the hard stuff, that's her poison. And then... down to the floor she goes. Clearly, it's time to find the task that will define the rest of her life. And so, we get the movie. Apparently, the little girl who lost her mother has an older sister, played by someone named Skywalker Hughes. It's a first name now, too! Another coup for Christian casting is perhaps Tamala Jones, star of such hits as Booty Call 1 and Can't Hardly Wait. It's a nice purging of the soul for some... something like that. It's like how actors still want to make boxing pictures or Army pictures, mostly for the workout regimen. That's why John Krasinski did that Michael Bay movie called 13 Hours. We're all trying to forget the full title: 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. That's right... THAT Benghazi. Somehow, I don't think the movie helped to clear the issue up for House or Senate Republicans. But that's part of the Republican bias. If Donald Rumsfeld were in charge of Benghazi, all he would have to do is go up to a podium and say "We can't control what happens on the other side of the world!" Case closed, victims mourned... who else is in the cast? Well, I recognize Amy Acker from the show "Person of Interest." Well, it's all downhill from the greatest role of your lifetime, really. Same thing's happening to Claire Danes without "Homeland." But they're both amateurs compared to Melissa Joan Hart, who also had a brief flirtation with Christian cinema. ONE DAY, MY GUARDIANS FINALLY HAD ENOUGH AND SENT ME TO A SPECIAL SUMMER CAMP, WHERE I ENDED UP MEETING A SOUL MATE OF SORTS: A KID WHO GOT CAUGHT EATING HIS OWN LOOGIES. WE WERE PLANNING ON GOING INTO BUSINESS TOGETHER, AND HAVE A CHAIN OF SPECIALTY STORES CALLED BOOGS 'N LOOGS, BUT THIS TEN YEAR OLD, HE GETS LOOSE! HE SAVES HIS FRIEND FROM DROWNING! HE CARRIES HIM A MILE AND A HALF TO THE NEAREST HOUSE! DOES THIS MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO YOU? HAVE YOU NO HUMAN FEELING LEFT AT ALL? OH, I GUESS YOU DON'T CARE.
