Another graduate of "American Experience," Byron's living up to his last name and tackling the toughest of subjects in documentary form. Probably why it takes him so long to get a distribution deal for his next project. In 2006, he released Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes... so, there was that! After six years of industry backlash, it was time to try another subject, so it was time to tackle the concept of Soul Food in something called Soul Food Junkies... I'm assuming it's just aimed at the American market. Not to mention that it's been co-opted by the "Comfort Food" movement. But really, no one else in the world eats like Americans do. We all know that. Incidentally, this portion of Auteur Watch is brought to you by Whole Foods. Whole Foods! Sometimes known popularly as "Whole Paycheck." Just ask Jeff Bezos!
And so, six more years of industry back-turning, so 2018 is bringing a subject that we can all surely get behind: hazing, in a documentary called Hazing... we've either got to wait for Cast and Crew information, or maybe it's just Byron himself in a room for 90 minutes with a camera. Let's hope he can still get people to go public with their stories. I guess punching the newbies in the chest with the sharp side of the pledge pin was a bit much, but we got it on hidden camera! Probably somewhere on YouTube Red! The things people have to do to prove their loyalty these days...
