Our next auteur is a documentary producer and director named James Beveridge. And, apparently this guy was ready to go right out of the gate! Strangely, though, he started out as a director, then moved his way up to producer. Then again, it was the 1940s, and it was Canadian cinema, so maybe being producer is the goal up there. The credit "Produced and Directed by" used to be the one to have. Now it's "Written and Directed by," and you tuck the credit for the book it's based on way down in the middle of the credits. Damn you, WGA!!!
