Damn... a long one. Whelp, John Akomfrah's got an impressive résumé of documentaries under his Proverbial belt! Whether it's a documentary about the Exxon Valdez oil spill, or one about Mariah Carey... there's a joke in there someplace. But they are quite similar subjects: I mean, one is one of the worst environmental disasters to befall the state of Alaska, and the other is the Exxon Valdez oil spill. But after 2013 or so, he seems to have parted company with the TV documentary as he once knew it. Still doing documentaries, but now he seems to be making his own Koyaanisqatsi, so to speak. It starts with 2017's Purple, and goes from there. Yup, humanity just can't destroy the environment enough, it seems! Or even fast enough. Um... Iron Man? Wanna help us out here? Anybody else see that report about how we're basically screwed? Even if we stop carbon dioxide emissions now, the hot summers will still be too hot and the cold winters too cold? The Earth's basically a Thermos (T) (CM) (Q) on steroids now. Sorry, future. I blogged as much as I could about it.
Damn. I knew I forgot something. I mean, when you're talking about John Akomfrah, shouldn't you also mention Ashitey Akomfrah too? There is a little bit of overlap, after all! Not on The Giraffe, but elsewhere.
