A tragic tale, Hollywood or otherwise, whenever the father outlives the son. (as of this writing, that is) But even though acting was probably his first love, Kristoff St. John did direct once! And sure, it was just a co-directing job, and sure, it was a documentary about his dad's life story, but work's work. Someone's gotta place that camera and microphone, right? Someone's gotta spend three months making ten thousand decisions a day. You know, everyone wants the glory of directing, but it's not always worth it. Take Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate (1980) as probably the prime example.
