Of course, when you're talking about James Brown, you'd be remiss and not at all a Completist if you didn't mention James Brownlie... oh, he's not... they're not an auteur. This is Auteur Watch, not Thanks Watch! I gotta have some standards, don't I? Incidentally, I just found out that, like Prometheus stole fire from the Gods, so too did Andrew Sarris steal the Auteur Theory from the hated French and gave it to America. And even though Pauline Kael didn't care for the Auteur Theory, apparently she was eventually won over. I mean, surely Lina Wertmuller's an Auteur, right? ...okay, so I don't know that much. Sorry.
